Apne Aap Women’s Collective
Started in 1998, AAWC (Apne Aap Women’s Collective) is an NGO that works with one of the most underprivileged and isolated sections of Mumbai’s society—women in brothel-based prostitution and their children.
The Vodafone India Foundation has provided funding to expand their Udaan education and vocational programme with the provision of much needed new facility to cater for 40 girls between the age group of 3–18 years within Kamathipura area. This day care centre provides these vulnerable children with opportunity for education, medical care and shelter. A night shelter has also been set up for these highly marginalized youngsters who are often exposed to the unhealthy environment which surrounds them.
