mBillionth Award

The Vodafone Mobiles for Good award was launched by the Vodafone India Foundation in association with the Digital Empowerment Foundation earlier this year.

Two successful Indian NGOs each secured a funding grant of 1 million rupees from the Vodafone Foundation at an award ceremony in Delhi on the 23rd July. This inaugural award recognises the efforts of the charity sector in using innovative mobile technologies to deliver social impact.

One winner, EduVarta, provides a unique SMS-based solution which offers career guidance and job alerts to rural and deprived college students in the Maharastra region. The other winner Kisan Sanchar already supports approx. 35,000 farmers across 7 states with its invaluable mobile service. Using this, farmers can receive real time information on the current demand and market rates for specific crops along with more general agricultural advice.
